With Christmas just around the corner many of you have probably heard about the supposed war on Christmas. This is an out-and-out lie. It is nothing more than a ratings ploy by Fox News and others.
Yes there are people in America that don’t celebrate Christmas, and yes that number is increasing. This is because America as it has been since its inception, is a melting pot. The usual group of the Jewish community, has been joined by Hispanics, Kurdish, Somali, Chinese and many others. So yes, Christmas is still a major holiday in America but there are many other cultures that have holidays this time of year. Since there is now more going on from November to January than Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years, just saying Merry Christmas doesn’t cover it. No one is asking you not to celebrate Christmas. All anyone is asking is that you simply remember you’re one of many. As far as Christmas goes, it used to be only one day, December 25th. It later took over December 24th, and now has swallowed almost all of December. Christmas isn’t going anywhere. If anything is it getting bigger. As we move into a true global economy and Americas population continues its tradition of being the worlds melting pot, other cultures traditions will continue to make their way into our society. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
This is what has made America the greatest nation on the planet. The mixture of cultures, traditions, and talents. We absorb an assimilate the best of the world and make it our own. Through the combinations of cultures we have we become stronger, each group bringing something unique. This should not be feared, people who are different should not be hated. Immigrants founded this country, and we have throughout history have welcomed the tired, the poor, the disenfranchised. People like Wernher Von Braun and Nikola Tesla came to this country escaping their home land and have been major contributors to our modern life. Never forget, no matter who you are, unless your ancestors were Native American, your family is in fact one of many who immigrated here.

Here is another good take on this whole mess: John Stewart takes on Fox News’ “War on Christmas”.
It’s a good watch. It also drives home the point nicely in a very us fashion. Pointing out what you already knew but didn’t want to admit to.
