What happened to the Mayans? Why does their calendar end at such a specific time? Does it mean the end of the world?

Mayan Calendar

Here is a theory that explains this set of circumstances. What do we know? The Mayans, other than their religious practices, such as human sacrifice, were exceptionally advanced for their time. They had a sophisticated understanding of space and time. As with many cultures at that time they had a polytheistic religion (many gods). All over the world (even in the bible) there are instances of things that read like and would be explained easily by visits from extra terrestrials. Everything from Ezekiel to many of the writings of the Egyptians, Maya, and a plethora of other cultures around the same time. Many of the ancient cultures had a noticeable knowledge of the stars, from Stone Henge to the Pyramids their knowledge is splayed out before us.
